Today I held my first big class; an Introduction to Bibliomancy. I was happy to see some of the students in attendance were already pretty practised in the use of magic. Bibliomancy of course is the method of employing sacred books, especially specific words and verses, for magic, medicine, exorcism, or divination and is widespread in many religions of the world. What the Vedas were to the HindusHomer to the Greeks, and Ovid and Virgil were to the Romans, the Old Testament is to the Jews, the Old and New Testaments to the Christians, and the Koran and Hafiz to the Mohammedans. Falathiel won 100 points for correctly identifying these religious sects. She is a wood elf and was first to take the floor and introduce herself and tell us a little bit about her powers.

"I'm Falathiel, my powers consist of spiritual magic, mostly conjuring, but also elemental control. They were granted me at birth from the spirits of my ancestors. I am a student because I want to adapt and further develop my abilities."
"I'm Takeo Hotaru. My powers are telekinesis and demonic sealing. I'm a member of the head family of the Hotaru Clan and I'm a student because my granddad, the head of the clan thought it would be a good idea."
"I'm Nikki and my powers are telekinesis, telepathy and technopathy. I'm a member of the Hotaru Clan as well and well, I'm a student because I want to be a good hero and learn more."
"I am Hunrescezael, I am a demonic prince, but I don't know the origin of my powers. I was interested in joining the Academy because of Amelia who accidentally conjured me to this world."
"I am Gadan, my powers are telepathy, telekinesis and teleportation. I got them in Russia at the hands of these scientists who experimented on me. I joined the school to develop my powers."

With so many of the students displaying magical  prowess, it wasn't long before we were in a semi-circle demonstrating some of the skills known to the students, whether magic in roots or not. One girl even conjured up a be-spelled Ifrit demon, very powerful indeed, and of course, it was none other than Falathiel. The main part of the class of course was to demonstrate a real-life Bibliomancy session and our special guest was Wraith, the soulless conduit of the Kings of Edom, whom I'd promised to help by way of an incorcism.

We descended to the core of the Earth, just below it's mantle to better attune to the Netherworld's nexus energy. Falathiel expressed great discomfort with journeying underground as she would loose source connection to the trees of the Earth but she agreed to give it a try if she went with an ancient book which would temporarily sustain her power. We were joined down at the lava chambers by a few other students and Doctor Jacub who I charged to watch over the students during the risky ritual. Wraith had brought with her a powerful cosmic conduit by the name of Apygoos who aided Eva and I in evoking the demons possessing Wraith. The incorcism was far more difficult than we had hoped. Wraith was being possessed by a legion of demons with the voices of a million consumed souls - the strengths of their past victims. But I had a full class of heroes behind me and the mission was to save this poor girl's soul, so I had the students support the candles holding Archangel Evea in our realm, with the collective strength of all our will, we were able to penetrate the demon, force it to reveal itself and bypass it's spells of security. Apygoos and I were then able to pierce through the vale and locate the Lost soul of Wraith. The mission was a success. Unfortunately, it came at a cost. One of the Kings of Edom smashed through my defences and incinerated his compromised vessel, forever destroying the body of Wraith.

Falathiel and a few other students were a little overwhelmed by this point and we had to hurry back to the house. While the Doctor and Nikki saw to the energy-depleted wood elf, I spoke with Apygoos about hatching a plan to rescue Wraith's soul at some point, now that we knew exactly where it was being held. He left with a promise to stay in touch and I returned to the class who had left for the woods with Falathiel. Fal was very upset at this point, having lost her treasured book to the molten lava of the Earth's core, but Doctor Jacub remains optimistic that a copy can be salvaged. All in all, I believe this was an effective awakening to the real threats of the demonic world that we all know is a part of the hero's life. Further classes of Bibliomancy may involve field trips to the Canadian Burial Caves.
